The Minister of Environment directed for expansion in sustainable transport projects

Dr. Yasmine Fouad, Minister of Environment, confirmed that the transport sector comes the second after "energy" in terms of air pollution, as the transport sector, especially vehicle exhaust, accounts for about 23% of the harmful emissions that cause air pollution.

She added that there is a health and environmental return in converting cars to the clean energy system, as converting 1,000 cars will save more than one million dollars, 1000 microbuses will save about $ 3 million, and converting 1000 buses to work with electricity will save about $ 44 million annually.

The Minister of Environment clarified that the governorates of Cairo, Giza and Qalyubia were firstly selected as they suffer from high rates of air pollution, adding that the locations of the scrap yards and their environmental requirements have been determined and specified.
